Autumn Days & Festive Fun at Bumpkin Hill

The days have been wonderful lately, with blue skies and the Autumn leaves and berries glowing. Taking cuttings and planting tulip bulbs in the garden. I was mesmerised by the little silver droplets covering cobwebs in the woods, surely the most beautiful Christmas decorations!

I have been very busy painting and designing new Patterns in my Studio, accompanied by the sound of the Robin chirping outside! He inspired my new line called "Hello Robin", the way I always greet him in the garden, he is such a friendly little chap!  I transformed my watercolor painting into this Pattern that now is part of a range of Art Prints and Notecards (blank or Christmas) in my Etsy Store. I also have a lot of new designs available in my Society6 Store as T-shirts, Phone Cases, sturdy Tote Bags for your Christmas Shopping and Mugs for Tea and Pillows to rest with afterwards!

New Fabric designs are now also available in my Spoonflower Store and right now until Nov 12th there is a 2 for 1 Fat Quarter Offer! There are fun designs that would make cute Christmas Stockings and Holiday outfits!

Follow my world behind the scenes over on Instagram, I post most days.

A Cotswold Dream - Part two

From Burford to Chipping Campden I was lost in the beauty of the golden Cotswolds and all the Hollyhocks welcoming guests at front doors!

I'm busily creating new paintings and patterns behind the scenes.

A Cotswolds Dream - Part One

I had a long held dream of visiting The Cotswolds and I am excited to say this came true a few weeks ago.  It is such a beautiful part of the UK, with golden cottages and gardens overflowing with Hollyhocks and roses, looking out over rolling hills stretched as far as the eye can see.  I felt like painting every little scene I saw,  and I'm sure there will be future Cotswold inspired designs at Bumpkin Hill!

I will start our journey together in Hidcote Gardens.  Lawrence Johnson, the American creator of Hidcote Manor Gardens arrived with his Mother in 1907. She bought the house and 287 acre for £7,200, with a deposit of £10!

The garden is famously divided into rooms divided by high hedges, giving many wonderful surprises around each corner.

Just before my trip I finished this commissioned painting of my Garden. I grow flowers that I love, that bring happy memories and inspired by all the wonderful English Gardens I visit.

Do join me back here soon for the rest of my journey, I will share the welcoming little Towns next,
Hugs and flowers,
Catherine

Get that Bumpkin Hill vintage feel for your Party

I love parties with a home spun feel full of heart and soul.  I remember birthday parties as a child with mixed vintage china, picking flowers from the garden and wonderful themed cakes made by my Mum,  I remember how fantastic a chocolate hedgehog cake was!  I now love to help you build memories like these for any little ones in your life, nieces and nephews, children, grandchildren...

Bumpkin Hill Party collections tend towards a rather british, vintage feel which I think suits a whimsical decor style.

Here are some tips and ideas to help you when designing your own parties.  Feel free to Pin them to your Boards on Pinterest. You can find lots more fun and inspiration amongst my Pinterest Boards

1. Tie together the style of backdrop and tableware with the feel of your theme.

A rustic wooden table and vintage china with a loose nature design ties in with the playful outdoors feel of my "Lambs at Play" Collection.

2. Pick fresh flowers from your garden and arrange loosely for a happy, natural look.

Even add fun cut out animals on sticks amongst your flowers, such as these

3. Have fun decorating party food, they will be perfect because they are made with love

Children will love to help decorating the cakes and cookies so leave some for them to do.

4. Recycle and decorate.  Decorate small glass bottles and jam jars with pieces of ribbon or even wool you have at home.  A little decorative tag, sticker or straw flag can add the finishing touch.

5. Party Games - I always like to go that extra mile for customers.  I help to suggest activities to keep everyone happy, anything from Maypole dancing and Piñatas to colouring in pages...
